We are a group with approximately 280 members, covering both cars and motorcycles. While this site is based around car drivers, the Motorcyclist group can be found on their own website, www.dwdam.org.uk. Our catchment area covers the whole of Dorset, apart from Bournemouth, which has its own group - more details.
The purpose of the IAM is to promote safer driving. This is done by training our assoicate members to the IAM test standard. In order to train the associate, they first attend three lectures given by a qualified Class One Civilian Driving Instructor, after which they will be paired with an Observer who will guide the associate to a safer way of driving. See details of our next training sessions.
In order that members don't just pass their IAM test and never see each other again, we organise monthly meetings / events. These may vary from a talk a Policeman about the use of a stinger device, to someone who has taken part in a Dakar Rally, or even a visit from the local Police Helicopter crew! We also have a number of motoring based activities that take place during the summer - to take advantage of the longer evenings, such as a Treasure Hunt and a Manoeuvrability competition.
The Dorset Group also publishes a quarterly newsletter which contains details of the social events, and many other useful pieces of information.
